Oh it seems I misunderstood something and thus used unclear wording of my proposal.
I agree completely with x3n's approach. In fact I believe I was advocating exactly this. The mask approach is the one to go, but the receiver shouldn't choose the sender, but the message (type).

I clearly prefer the sender-receiver solution. Even though there is more complexity, there is also more flexibility. Since the notifications seem to be a part of the game that may be affected a lot by modules that we maybe haven't even started to think about, flexibility is key IMHO. In the end the ...

Okay, that last post from x3n clearly showed the real challenges of this project. Indeed the back and fourth with lua and XML could/should be omitted and/or be simplified. Of course we won't be able to get rid of all lua code ever, which is not the idea anyway, but putting it into neat and practical...

Maybe I'm missing a point, but the new proposed super-XML file that doesn't really exist, isn't really different from what we do now, except that includes are done automatically with the designer not having to worry too much about file paths and dependencies, right?
