PPS Projects for HS09

Hi

In about 2 weeks the new PPS will start and we need to collect our ideas for pps-tickets.
please think about what orxonox needs for the next (sub-)version and post it here.
thats what we already collected by email:

GUI:
- configuration of config values
- configuration of keybindings
- configuration of destination ip (client mode)

Sound:
- background music of levels
- use sounds effects for objects

- new Gametypes
- new Weapons
- enhance Textures / create new ones

any other ideas?

- new Pickups (?)
- Sound layers (To achieve position dependent ambient sound in the levels)
- New models (ships, debris, ...)
- AI
- General GUI style (What I mean by that is: Create a coherent style for all GUI's (and Overlays) used in orxonox. Especially improving the style of the hud.)

I talked to my colleague abut new tickets (he's a former pps attender) and he helped me get some new (additional ideas):

- Improved flying. This means: Formations (for group-flight), special-'moves' and generally think of ideas to make flying more exciting.
- New content. Levels, quests, background, in short to put all the things that are now implemented to use and create playable content and flair for the game.

Damn, I feel a bit lost here since I'm framework coder. And framework stuff should not make it into a PPS ticket as I had to find out the hard way...

But I strongly feel about the GUI improvements and the "actual" level. It doesn't have to be a big level or so. But something to start with would be cool. This would then be more or less XML and maybe some lua coding.

It's all about making the game more usable by the player. This is why the GUI as tool to control the environment is so important now.

I'd like to see more tools for developers. Meaning level creator, ddt for our xml files etc.

such a tool would be great, but as reto already said i don't think this is a pps ticket. i think this has to be done by one (multiple) of us...

I agree that such tasks are much more difficult and demand more preparations, personal responsibility and know-how. If we're able to split the tasks into handy subtasks, those could work as advanced PPS tickets for somebody already familiar with Orxonox.
But I understand totally, if this is not something you want to try. Somebody of us should work out a base for further development on such tools.

that might work.

someone should code the base/framework and then we can create different (sub)tickets to extend the editor/... but i think this is at the earliest something for the next term ...

now that we have level unloading (soon available) what about a ticket for an in-game menu? (i.e. when pressing esc like in UT)
i think this would be possible for a student to complete, what do you think?!

Yeah, I think so. Might require a little help with the details, but seems possible.
