seems like there have been a lot of changes regarding LoD from ogre-1.4 to 1.6 to 1.7
how long do we still "have to" support ogre-1.4 ?

How many systems don't yet work with OGRE 1.6? I think that's the interesting question.

you probably mean 1.6?
there's for sure ubuntu 8.04 lts (which will be "replaced" by 10.04 lts) and we currently use ogre-1.4 on tardis ...

You probably mean 10.04 ;) So the problem will be solved in April anyway... at least for Ubuntu and not yet tardis...
