Server Downtime

Post by nicolasc » Sat Jul 19, 2008 7:45 pm

Hi everyone,

As you probably have noticed, our server was not available for the past weeks.

I had to restart the server, and it did not come back. It took some time to figure out the problem, but we are back again.

I hope that this will never happen again - but I wont do any promisses.

cheers

Hey, great work!
Thanks nico, I have to commit my input changes tomorrow so I can merge with the GUI stuff ;)

How long are we online again? Because I have noticed it when I was riding the train at 9.30pm. But this thread was not yet open then..

I did not do that much - keep your thanks for beni and oli...

well, beni buzzed my around 6:00pm that the server was back up, but there were still some unresolved issues.

I thought it would be nice to have at least some mention of this incident - that why i put it online. (better late that never)

cheers

Well then I gracefully apologize to Beni Oli and express my gratitude to them ;)

I can hopefully commit some changes today. That InputManager has been a real pain in the arse (I even had to stop working on the GUI because of its design), but I think I managed to solve the issue. The inspiration I needed was the z-buffer of the graphics engine... ;)

About the GUI: I had a problem when using several viewports in the game (for a rear mirror for instance). That caused the console to loose its transparent abilities, which looked quite ugly.
The solution, as pointed out in the ogre forums, was render-to-texture (a viewport within the game scene itself). So we can use that when necessary.
However, split screen, if required, will be more much more of an issue when trying to keep the GUI on top of the game and the console on top of the GUI. But that's future dreams.
