Well, I guess I'll work on Crystal Space on Windows then. I haven't started yet, though. So if you, paedu, would prefer to work with CS, it's not a problem for me to change to Irrlicht.

Crystalspace status report:

The Debian (unstable) and Ubuntu (feisty) package (it's the same) for crystalspace is outdated and mispackaged. I reported one bug to ubuntu.

I tried to make a basic tutorial: http://www.crystalspace3d.org/main/Walktest_Tutorial

but 'walktest' does not work.

I created a new wiki page: http://dev.orxonox.net/wiki/3DEngineEvaluation

... and added the things I have tested with Crystal Space till now.

Feel free to add your name and your engine evaluation data.

my first impressions with ogre are documented here: viewtopic.php?t=173

Thx for starting the wiki page. I'll edit my part as soon as I've done a bit more than just compiling the bsp-example-code :)
