World Wide Telescope
I was at a conference yesterday which was hosted by Microsoft. While they were talking about a lot of interesting research stuff, they found the time to promote their new products. They have many new things and if your interested I can tell you more about it. Just send me a message or ask me in IRC.
However one product is very much interesting. It is called WorldWide Telescope. You may have heard of it already. You can explore the whole universe and see amazing images of far galaxies or our planets in the solar system. There are many features, however the webclient runs really slow in Ubuntu because Microsoft's SilverLight is replaced by the Moonlight Beta and this eats away all my RAM (2GB). Since it's Microsoft you can download a Windows Client or use the original SilverLight Plugin for your browser.
At the conference they mentioned "storytelling" as a overall feature of WWT. You can produce photo galleries and movie clips about stellar objects. So for ideas and inspirations of the CC team a tour through space could be interesting.

Re: World Wide Telescope
as it's not software from microsoft it should'nt contain such severe bugs anymore in the beta stadium
