Rage - "The Legacy of id"

You probably heard about Rage, the new first person shooter by id Software. It features the brand new id Tech 5 engine. Here's a video which shows some scenes from the game, explains some details of the engine and the development, as well as the history of id software (Doom, Wolfenstein, Quake).

For us developers it's of course also interesting to see the developer's tools. This is what I can see from the video:

- Autodesk 3ds Max 2009 SP1 for modelling
- Touchscreen and pen for modelling
- md6 format for models in the game (Quake3 used md3)
- Code looks like C or C++
- Data (e.g. animations) defined in a language which looks like JSON or also Ogre material scripts
- Perforce revision control system
